Exhibition featuring the five short-listed artists competing for the £2000 prize +the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Walker Art Gallery or the £1000 People's Choice award. 'A Golden Age of Lettering' encompasses thought provoking projects by a range of designer makers touching ceramics, jewellery and architecture. There is an explosion of work within this category, and we will be featuring pieces by Rosella Garavaglia, Claire Hillerby, Deborah Hopson-Wolpe, Eleanor Suggett, Christine Toh and Jessica Turrell. The opening of Arabicity coincides with the Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival, a 10 day celebration of Arabic Arts and Culture. The exhibition curated by Rose Issa, Arabicity (runs until 5 September) introduces six contemporary artists, Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, Chant Avedissian, Ayman Baalbaki, Fathi Hassan and Raeda Saadeh, all from the Arab World who explore their cultural heritage from unique perspectives. The exhibition is about representations of the self, projecting and protecting one’s own image and personal iconography.
