Call out for Liverpool Civic Coding projects

OSDC citizens participationAcross the world we have seen the rise of Civic Coding projects.  What are these you ask - Well, they are a group of individuals with a variety of skills from coding, design, and user experience who come together and identify a problem that could be solved through the use of a digital solution for the betterment of society.

These groups meet up, examine a problems and then apply themselves to solve the problem. Simply, these can be anything from looking at giving people accurate information on Bus Timetabling to helping people report fly tiping in their area.

So that's the introduction to Code for Liverpool a brand new Civic Coding project here in Liverpool and it's looking for members and projects.

So how can you help?

Volunteer - These projects take place in the real world so if that's where you live then your help would be useful. If you feel you have some skills to give then they would love to hear from you. You don't have to be a geek to take part as you probably have a load of pertinent skills that would be really usefull to pulling this project together.

Do you have a project already? If you have an open project already then Ross Jones who started the project said he is looking for a couple of things to start with;

1. For people to send them a short precis and links for projects that you know about, have built, and/or are working on and might want help with.

2. Start a project, ask them to add you to the github repo, talk about the project.

Ross has said that he will look to orgainse a hack day to a similar smaller event to start with possibly at Geekup Liverpool - as and when these events are organised I will bring you more news.

Please Visit:http://codeforliverpool.org to find out more and get involved as much as you can.

There are some geat examples here on the Nesta Site; examples such as ReWired State, MySociety gets a mention and so does Manchester's Data Syncronisation Programme.
