Rathole RadioTonight it's the Rathole Roadshow @leafteashop and it will be one of the most engaging performances in Liverpool for a long time. Not only is it FREE but there is going to be enough technology in the room to sink a small battleship.  I was asked earlier on Twitter what I meant by saying it was going to enage an online audience so I'll go into those details now.
The whole gig is going to be Live Streamed across the internet, the video will be streamed using Ustream and the audio will also be streamed, but that's not the bit that makes it exciting for me. What makes it truly engaging is that you can respond to the performances as you hear them via twitter and via the IRC or Internet Chat Room - nothing new there either really. But if you connect the twiiter stream to a couple of little gadgets one called @bubblino and the other simply called Audiencebot then this is something else, @bubblino will blow bubbles everytime he reads the hashtag #RR2012 in the Twitter Streeam and then the Audiencebot will bang his drum adding to the general applause giving the band direct feedback about how their performance is from the online audience. NOW THAT'S ENGAGEMENT FOR YOU
Over the forthcoming weeks in Liverpool there are loads of gigs laid on for Sound City and even a Conference of some sort but the one thing we won't see is a live video stream and the opportunity to give direct feedback.

You can read the press release below about Rathole Radio.

Friday May 11th sees the return of the Rathole Roadshow for a 3rd successive year. The roadshow is a music event with a difference, a geeky interactive ellement. We’ll be connecting  Rathole Radio fans around the world directly with artists and guests in the room via message  walls, chat rooms and even our fabulous audience-bot robot, built by Liverpool’s favourite boffin  Mr Adrian McEwen. When triggered by viewers online the bot will let off a burst of applause into  the room, so they can get involved wherever they are.

In keeping with Rathole Radio itself the line up is eclectic but carefully selected, with an emphasis on local talent this time. We have:

The Corinthians – A Liverpool rap group who’ve christened their unique style “Scouse dub hop”. Blending elements of dub and reggae with the skills of some great MCs. They’ve supported Sugar Hill Gang, Ugly Duckling and the Jungle Brothers to name just a few, they know how to put on a show.

P’Chenga – Expanding on the reggae vibe these guys fuse ska and rock with energy and feeling. They also bring a live brass section to the party and their infectious grooves will get you moving your feet.

20lb Sounds – Making their third appearance at the roadshow are local rockers 20lb Sounds. No hint of bias in the fact that lead singer Dan Lynch also presents Rathole Radio *ahem*. On a serious note though these guys have been gigging around Liverpool a lot in the last year and building up a reputation for great melodies.

Thom Morecroft – Thom is a singer-songwriter who’s originally from Shrewsbury but now studies in Liverpool. The power and purity of his voice have to be heard to be believed and Dan is not the only one to notice it. Thom was recently featured at length on BBC Radio Merseyside’s Folkscene program and the future looks very bright.

Join us at LEAF On Bold St, Friday May 11th @ 8pm – ENTRY IS FREE but donations are always appreciated.

You can also get a free EP show casing all of the artists here – ratholeradio.org/sampler
