Binary Festival - what we know so far

Thinking Digital Speaker Heather Knight flickr phot by thinkingdigitalIt was announced last week that a new festival is going to be gracing our already hectic Liverpool Festivals calendar in 2016 and to be honest it is about time to that we had a decent Digital Festival here.

Herb Kim, the Head of Talent and skills at Tech North, got up and introduced the Festival at the Kin Social winter warmer last Thursday evening, giving us a quick run down on the set up and activities across the two days. Herb said there isn't a great deal confirmed at the moment.  But I think we can rely on Herb, who runs a number of TEDx events across the UK including here in Liverpool, plus the really successful Thinking Digital conference in Gateshead, to turn up with the goods. Speak at Ignite Liverpool

To quote the website "The Binary Festival will be a unique gathering of creative and digital professionals from Northwest England and across the UK meeting to investigate the near future of technology, digital media, innovation and creativity."

Community
One of the big things to come out of the night was the need for the community to get behind it and Herb made an appeal for people and places (not mentioning any names) to get involved in creating events and discussions for the first day of the event - the Gatherings element.

If you have an idea for a workshop or event then Binary Festival would be interested in hearing from you. Simply email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  and ask them for a pack. We already have. smcliv iphone 154x300

Editor's note: I really pleased that this is going to be taking place and have wanted a good digital festival here since about 2008 when I first went to Future Everything in Manchester - I think it was called something else back then. We really need to dig our own furrow though with so many digital Festivals taking place across the UK, it is going to have to stand out of the crowd. In the past few years there have been some really pitiful attempts a a digital element bolted on the side of other festivals...... find out about social media and listen to this ceo talk about their awful products. I'll put my cynicism away now. But I'll put it away as I am really excited because Herb Kim is involved and what he touches invariably turns to gold.... ok that might be a bit strong.

The whole Liverpool digital community is a lot stronger now than it was 5 years ago and is much more able to support an event of this type; the number of meetups that are taking increases every month, some can be a but hit or miss but they are at least taking place. And SMCLIV certainly did miss at times. With the strength that these meetups bring, the stronger the community grows as the bonds that tie us together tighten.

It is fair to say that it's already in the Digital Events Calendar and as more detail is announced we'll be letting you know here.
